Armie Hammer Online

Monday Morning Man: Armie Hammer!

At just 23, actor Armie Hammer seems destined to be a major star.
His biggest role so far as evangelist Billy Graham in the film Billy – The Early Years which just came out on DVD.
I chatted with Armie about the movie when it was released in theaters last year. He said YouTube was invaluable in helping him prepare to play the self-assured and charismatic preacher before he became a worldwide figure in the religious and political worlds.

“I think that’s the greatest tool for any actor playing a real person,” Armie said. “I was able to find so much stuff and do almost all of my research on the computer….When it’s someone as recognizable and identifiable as Billy Graham, if you mess up, there are 2 billion people who have seen his preach and they will know.”

Billy – The Early Years was shot over five weeks in various locations in Tennessee, including a town so small that its two sheriff’s deputies would often stop by to watch the shoot.

Recalled Hammer: “We’d hear their walkie talkies and the calls would be like, ‘Jim is on his tractor drunk again.’”

The great-grandson of U.S. business tycoon Armand Hammer, the actor seemed almost pre-destined to play Graham. His father had bumped into the preacher one day on the Cayman Islands where the Hammer family lived.

“He was there vacationing and my dad was just walking down the beach one morning and saw him sitting under a tree,” he said. “He just gave my dad so much time, they talked for two hours. He told my dad the story about how he tried to talk to my great-grandfather about God. They were in an elevator in New York and (Graham) said: ‘Do you know where you’re going after you die?’ (My great-grandfather) didn’t say anything and Once the elevator stopped, he just got out.”

The actor said he never considered changing his famous name: “I’m proud of my family name. The only time it only hurt was in junior high school when the nicknames started. I also get a lot of questions about baking soda.”

Billy: The Early Years Of Billy Graham

If you haven’t already, you can order Billy via Amazon!

Before he was the best-known clergyman in America and a spiritual adviser to Presidents, Billy Graham was a young man struggling with doubt and searching for a way to be of service. This sensitive and respectful film about Billy Graham’s early years stars Armie Hammer as Graham.

I spoke to Hammer about the challenges of taking on the role of a man people know so well.

How did you come to this project?

One day my agent called and said, “I have your next movie. That’s all you need to know.” I fell madly in love with it, knew i had to do it. The next thing I knew, I was in Billy Graham world.

it was the approach i responded do. i knew who he was the way every one else on the planet knows, but this was the human, how he found his faith, how his faith was shaken, how the love of his life was given and almost taken away. We start at the beginning and end when Billy Graham the preacher eclipse Billy Graham the person.

What are the challenges and pitfalls of portraying a real person who has inspired so much respect and affection?

You want to be so careful and pay respect to the Grahams, make something they like and love, and give them the most honest and real portrayal so they can say, “I remember that, I said that.”

I studied his autobiography, Just As I Am. It was an amazing tool for me to use. I also used the internet where you can see private, personal videos that show how he was when he was not preaching. His preaching was his signature enthusiasm but I wanted to see what he was like when he was just talking, where you see his personality.

What made Graham so special?

It was definitely his blind faith — the fact that he whole-heartedly without question or doubt at all found his beliefs and did not waver. He was so human and could take the gospel and make it accessible. He would not say he was the smartest person in the world but he had the gift of faith. In this story, he and Templeton go through a crisis of faith but react differently.

His approachability and simplicity was what made him so good at communicating with people. He is the most honest and good human being that ever walked this planet. He never had a scandal because he did not have a scandalous bone in his body. He created the Modesto manifesto to make sure that he and his men could withstand temptation. He called them together and said, “Ministers are falling to the left and right. What we have to say is too important. Go to your room for an hour and think about what it is that is the cause of these ministers’ downfall.” They all had the same things on the list — sex, money, pride, lying. He said, “Here is what we will do. We will have an outside firm to do the money, none of us will ever be alone in a room with a woman, we will never lie about our numbers of followers or criticize others.” Those are the kinds of decisions that made him unique.

With all the buzz about actors to play Captain America, plus everyones articles on their favorite Steve Rogers, i just had to put in my two cents and its criminal Marvel Studios that you don’t have Armie Hammer as Captain America on the short list. CBMers, come and have a real read about the talented actor and some others too…

Armie Hammer:

Armand Douglas “Armie” Hammer (born August 28, 1986 Los Angeles USA). He is an American film and television star actor.

Hammer was raised on the Westside of Los Angeles. He has appeared in the television series The Reaper (the devils son), Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl, and Desperate Housewives. He was hand-picked by filmmaker George Miller after a long search to star in Justice League: Mortal as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film was to be directed by Miller, but he left the project.

Hammer played the famous Christian evangelist Billy Graham in Billy: The Early Years which premiered in October 2008. The film garnered Hammer a “Faith and Values Award” nomination in the Grace Award category, which is awarded for the Most Inspiring Performance in Movie or Television.

Hammer’s most recent film appearance was as Harrison Bergeron in 2081, the film adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s short story by that name.

Armie Hammer was born (again) Los Angeles, California, USA. He’s an all American blonde blue eyed guy. He is 6′ 5″ just a little over Steve Rogers but at least he’s not 5 foot nothing, he would have a great presence on screen. Hammer is a really good actor, probably better known to some as the son of the devil on “The Reaper” TV show. He is in his twenties, perfect for a World War Two Steve Rogers/Captain America, he looks just like Steve Rogers, like he’s jumped right out of the Marvel/Timely comic book pages, and better still he still has that ‘unknown’ factor about him, perfect for the start up of the Captain America franchise!

Hammer is currently filming the movie “The Social Network” and what can i say, this is Steve Rogers!

Anyway if you agree, just say “YES” on this, thank you and keep on collecting! ; )

AHO visitor Whitney was kind enough to send in her sighting of Armie. It’s really cute! Thanks Whitney! 🙂

I spotted Armie and Elizabeth in Larchmont Village last week. They were dining together at the sushi restaurant Kiki on Larchmont Road and they were smiling and laughing a lot. I tried to hear what they were saying because Armie was talking about his day on set filming The SOCIAL Network, but I couldn’t really hear details. They were holding hands under the table though even though they were sitting across from eachother. Also, a waitress at the restaurant said they come in a lot and that last time they were with Leighton Meester and her bf!! WHo knew they were all friends?

2081 Screencaptures

Amazing, incredible, breath-taking! I don’t know if there’s enough words out there for me to describe what a superb film 2081 is. I received my copy from Amazon just yesterday and capped it as soon as I could. An absolute must-see for any Armie or Kurt Vonnegut fan. The movie is rather short (only 25 minutes) but it stays very true to the short story it’s based on: “Harrison Bergeron” . It’s really a brilliantly done film – the entire cast are fantastic, visually the film is stunning. Now, that’s enough of my ranting, lol. I’ve added over 700 HD captures of Armie from the movie. Enjoy 😀

Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a great week! Just a small update for today, I’m posting two (very cute) sightings of Armie that were sent in. If you’ve met/worked with Armie before and want to share your story. I’d love to hear about it, don’t hesitate to email me with it. 🙂 A big thank you goes out to Misty and Jessica for being so kind to send in their sightings!

The first sighting is courtesy of Misty, who was ever so kind to share her story about Armie and his recent airport troubles, lol.

I work for TSA in Austin, TX. I was verifying travel documents in front of the checkpoint when they arrived. There’s a red line marked on the floor with a stop sign that reads, “Wait for the officer to call you,” and after the last passenger, Elizabeth started to cross the line, and Armie held her back and whispered and pointed at the sign in a very serious manner. I didn’t know who they were, and I was laughing at him for being so serious about the sign because it was late in the day and slow, so I wasn’t bombarded with passengers; they were the only people in line. So, then he made a big production about crossing the line, and we were all laughing together. Elizabeth handed me her boarding pass (AUS to LAX) and ID, and Armie said, “Oh, you’re going to hate me!” I asked why, and he said that he had forgotten his wallet. I told him it was no big deal, that we would figure it out, and asked if he had two other forms of ID. We’re all still laughing about the situation, and he said he didn’t have two other forms of ID. He only had his credit card and the keychain with his initials, of course which had us laughing harder. I told them that I could also use his boarding pass from LAX to AUS, but he said they had thrown it away. Then he said, “I’m an actor. You can Google me!” to which I responded, “Uh, that’s not proper ID, sir.” Again, more laughing. After several minutes of riffling through all of their belongings, including their wedding invitations with a photo of them attached, the pose which they reenacted for me, we found enough proof of his identity, and I let them proceed through the checkpoint. He told me, “You’re a lot nicer about this than the lady in LA.” I said, “That’s because you’re in the land of friends.” And he said, “Yeah, this is where I’m from.” When I got home, I told my husband about it, mostly because I thought I was being tested at work because Armand Hammer doesn’t sound like a real name, and that he said his nick name is Armie. My husband looked him up on IMDB, and there he was!

This second one is thanks to Jessica who was an extra on The Social Network :

I was an etra on the set of social network today and Armie is the STAR of that film! David Fincher loves him. Anyway, the BIG news is that he’s ENGAGED!!!!!! I know. I recognied his fiance from e!–I’ve seen her report on red carpet stuff a lot. They are actually really cute. He got so ecited when he saw her walk on set that he jumped in the air and ran over to her. And OMGGGGG is her ring big. At least 8 carats. Not kidding. It must be good to be a Hammer! haaha!

“The Social Network” and 2081 release dates + 2081 stills

Hi everyone! I’m so sorry for the lack of updates at the sites. But, honestly, things have been quiet on the Armie-front lately. I’ve tried my best to dig up info and possibly pictures but to with no luck (if anyone ever wants to send in anything, please don’t hesitate to email me). With that said, I’m going to try my best to upload clips of Blackout and add screencaptures of Armie’s other projects. I promise I’ll try to have that up as soon as possible!

Anyway, I’ve added the release dates for two of Armie’s movies. First off, according to The Social Network will be released on October 15, 2010. Also, 2081 will be released on DVD on January 25, 2010! Which is wonderful news, I was beginning to think it would never be released lol. I’ll mostly definitely have caps and clips up for you all ASAP. Don’t forget you can pre-order the DVD via Amazon.

Finally, I’ve added a few stills of Armie from 2081 and the DVD cover as well. I think the movie looks fantastic!

I hope everyone is well! Happy Holidays to you all, have a wonderful time and stay safe. 😀
