Armie Hammer Online

A Complicated Affair

Armie Hammer was poised to be a major matinee idol. But he wasn’t prepared for what happened to him on the set of Call Me by Your Name.

Armie Hammer is six-foot-five, a general advantage in life but one that doesn’t serve him well on the dance floor. “When I dance,” he told me recently over lunch in West Hollywood, “I think, You’re really shit at this, and everyone around you knows it because you’re the tallest guy on the dance floor and you stick out like a sore thumb.”

You can imagine Hammer’s embarrassment, then, when he had to shoot a dance scene for his new movie, the 1980s-set gay romance Call Me by Your Name. It’s a pivotal moment in the film that comes not long after his character, grad student Oliver, has arrived in a small Italian village to assist the professor father of our protagonist, 17-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet). The secret crush on this interloper that Elio nurses becomes full blown the night he watches Oliver boogie down to “Love My Way,” by the Psychedelic Furs: Oliver’s ecstatic, unabashed, and utterly indifferent to the world around him. “And that’s so not me, in any situation,” said Hammer. “I was like, ‘This is hell. Can we switch this for more nude scenes, please?’ ”

Armie Hammer Dancing In the ‘Call Me By Your Name’

Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled a new clip from the critically acclaimed drama Call Me By Your Name, and it could not have come at a better time. Scripted by James Ivory based on the André Aciman novel of the same, the film hails from A Bigger Splash and I Am Love director Luca Guadagnino. Set in 1983, Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar) stars as a precocious 17-year-old American-Italian boy who’s on summer vacation with his family at their Italian villa. When a charming American scholar (Armie Hammer) comes to work with the boy’s father, a summer romance sparks that awakens feelings of first love, brilliantly and sensually captured by Guadagnino and bolstered by phenomenal performances.

This clip, released by Sony Pictures Classics in celebration of National Coming Out Day, features Hammer and Chalamet’s characters dancing to “Love My Way” at a party, and it’s pretty terrific. Much of the film revolves around the dance that Hammer and Chalamet’s characters do around each other, trying to figure out if the other one, in fact, feels the same way. It leads to some great sexual tension, flirtation, and frustration, and Hammer and Chalamet are so good in these roles.

Call Me By Your Name remains the best film I’ve seen in 2017, and I can’t wait for everyone else to experience it when it hits theaters next month. For now, enjoy this clip below. The film also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, and Esther Garrel and opens in select theaters on November 24th.

After a mission that went south, a soldier finds himself alone in the middle of the desert. He has to survive the hostile nature that surrounds him, but mostly himself, his fears and regrets. The producer Peter Safran is the same of Buried and The Conjuring. The real news, though, is that the scripwriters and the directors are Italian: Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro. The movie has been shot for over a month in Spain, between Canary Islands and Barcelona, and it’s now in the post-production phase. Rounding out the cast of Mine are the blonde-haired Anabelle Wallis (who played the leading role in the horror Annabelle) and Tom Cullen (famous for his role in the TV-show Downtown Abbey).

Armie Hammer Leading Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Call Me By Your Name’

After not making a feature film for half-a-decade, director Luca Guadagnino is on quite a productive streak recently. His reunion with Tilda Swinton after I Am Love, the highly recommended A Bigger Splash, is now in theaters, and he plans to shoot his remake of Suspiria this fall. In between, he’s quietly begun production on a new feature.

Although there was no formal announcement, it’s been revealed to be an adaptation of André Aciman‘s novel Call Me By Your Name. Scripted by James Ivory and the director, it follows a 17-year-old boy who begins a romance with his father’s house guest. Taking the role of the boy is Interstellar star Timothée Chalamet while Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man) plays his father and Armie Hammer (who will soon be seen in Ben Wheatley‘s Free Fire and Tom Ford‘s Nocturnal Animals) takes the role of the house guest.

With filming already underway as of two weeks ago — Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Arabian Nights, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) will serve as DP — Guadagnino has promised “plenty of nudity,” which is no surprise if you’ve seen his latest work. “One of the biggest inspiration is the 1983 movie A nos amours by Maurice Pialat and if you watch it, it has nothing of that somewhat stupid idea of big shoulders, big stripes and big hair,” he tells WWD.
